In autumn 2024, a brand new 270-kilometre trail opened through the outer reaches of the Stockholm archipelago — inviting walkers and nature lovers to explore Sweden’s coast in a whole new way.
Discover the new Stockholm Archipelago Trail
One of the most loved ways to experience Stockholm is to head out into the archipelago. Many visitors stick to the nearby favourites — islands like Fjäderholmarna and Vaxholm — but now, it’s easier than ever to venture a little further.
Launched in autumn 2024, the unique Stockholm Archipelago Trail is a 270-kilometre hiking route that stretches across 22 islands and is divided into 20 scenic legs, with each section accessible by public ferry. It’s your invitation to explore the wild beauty of the outer archipelago — where pine forests meet open sea and red boathouses dot the shoreline.
Like all good trails in Sweden, it is clearly marked and thoughtfully equipped, with benches, shelters and firepits along the way. You’ll also find cosy B&Bs, local restaurants and welcoming places to pause for a well-earned rest after a day’s walking.
You can find more information on Visit Stockholm’s dedicated site for the Stockholm Archipelago. Take a look — and be inspired to create new, active and sustainable travel experiences for your clients.
