Welcome to Jämtland Härjedalen
Easily accessible by either train or plane, Jämtland Härjedalen opens up for a unique experience connecting the history and mysteries of the past to natural beauty and modern pulse. The Jämtland Härjedalen region consists of two neighbouring provinces (hence the double name) with so much in common they’re often referred to as a singular unit; ‘Jämtland Härjedalen’. Occupying a lofty 63° latitude in the central-west part of Sweden, the breath-taking scenery spans mountains, deep forests and numerous lakes including Storsjön, Sweden’s fifth largest. Its unspoilt nature provides the perfect habitat for elks, reindeers, bears, wolverines, musk oxen, arctic foxes and rare bird species. The Mountains explode in a palette of colours in the autumn and treasures in the form of berries and mushrooms are ripe for gathering and picking. Hiking this time of year is like walking through a live art gallery.
Sweden’s nature has always been an integral part of our culture and played a central role in Swedish folklore. Inspired by this heritage, internationally-celebrated author John Ajvide Lindqvist has brought some of our mythological creatures to life in a chilling tale and audio story.
